Department Head: Michael Neighbors
The EOC provides information to the citizens during emergency and non-emergency situations. There are also citizen trainings held for all that are interested. The Shallowater Emergency Management Team is a work in progress. It's main objective is to protect the citizens of Shallowater from any and all emergency incidents. One of the major tools the EOC utilizes is communication and informing the citizens. Continued below are some civil defense measures to be aware of.
Civil Defense Warnings
The City of Shallowater has a Civil Defense Siren System designed to alert the citizens to conditions and weather that might affect them. The siren tower (located at City Hall) is used in the event of inclement weather and for local fire runs. Knowing the total number of siren blasts given and their meaning is essential for your safety.
One Blast: This notifies the Shallowater Fire Department members of a meeting or a work session. This will usually be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday nights. The one blast will also be used to verify that the siren system is working properly.
Two Blasts: This indicates that a fire has been reported and all fire personnel should respond to the station. The siren may sound two more blasts a short time later to notify additional personnel to respond.
Three Blasts: When 3 or more blasts occur in succession, this indicates the existence of sever weather (i.e. tornado, large hail, damaging winds) or a civil defense emergency.
You are instructed to TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY and monitor local radio, television or the NOAA weather radio station. If time and personnel are available, supplemental warning sirens will be conducted by emergency vehicles driven the streets with a high/low siren.
NOTE: The City of Shallowater will not activate any audible sirens for an "all clear". It is your responsibility to monitor the weather or other emergencies and determine when you believe it is safe to return to your normal activities.
